Choose the experience.
Then the destination.

A snow holiday does not need an outdoor activity every hour. Choose what matters to you, then consider transfers, hotels, fitness and the extra costs together.

Snow scenery, ice displays and northeast winter life

Harbin · Changbai · Snow Town

  • What to do: explore Snow Town’s lanes and snow-covered rooftops, combine Harbin city sights with Changbai’s winter landscapes.
  • Who it suits: first-time snow travellers who enjoy a mix of city visits, scenery, food and photography.
  • Timing: plan around listed winter departures, then verify attraction openings and local conditions. Last season’s opening dates are not a promise for this season.
  • Compare carefully: the standard Changbai route has optional activities at extra cost; include them in your budget.

A journey to China’s far north

Mohe · Arctic Village

  • What to do: experience Arctic Village, snowy forests and far-north settlements, extending your journey beyond Harbin to Mohe.
  • Who it suits: travellers seeking a distinct northern experience, with included domestic flights and a considered hotel plan.
  • Compare the details: the Signature route includes two Harbin–Mohe flights, four five-star Harbin nights, and one night each in Mohe and Arctic Village.
  • Know this first: auroras cannot be guaranteed. Choose this journey for the far-north scenery and cultural experience.

Snow festivals, canal walks & onsen time

Hokkaido

  • What to do: see Sapporo’s snow sculptures and winter lights, stroll along Otaru Canal, then make time for an onsen or a suitable beginner ski session.
  • Who it suits: friends, couples and families combining snow, city food and a relaxed pace. Choose skiing and bathing venues around ages, fitness and local requirements.
  • Published events: Sapporo Snow Festival, 4–11 February 2027; Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival, 30 January–23 February 2027. Recheck operating notices before visiting.
  • How to plan: ask us about a tailored winter journey. Our listed 27 April 2027 Hokkaido cherry-blossom tour is a spring product, not a snow-festival package.

Blue ice, grottos & open lake horizons

Russia · Lake Baikal

  • What to do: explore Olkhon blue ice and ice grottos, experience lake transport when conditions permit, and discover Buryat culture.
  • Who it suits: scenery and photography travellers who are comfortable with cold conditions and longer travel transfers.
  • Our listed journey: 9 days, 8 nights departing 16 February 2027, with hovercraft, Olkhon off-road travel and camp culture experiences, plus a Beijing hotel night on the return connection.
  • Know this first: activities depend on ice conditions. Blue ice and caves will not look identical to every photograph. Follow local professional arrangements; never test lake ice independently.

Leave a little room for winter.

Pack for the actual activities

Layers, a windproof waterproof outer layer, warm footwear with grip, gloves and a hat are useful starting points. For children or older family members, compare outdoor time, walking and indoor breaks.

Include your optional choices in the budget

Budget for visas, insurance, equipment hire, ski lessons and optional experiences. Activities mentioned in this guide are not included in every tour; follow the selected product’s itinerary and inclusions.

How should I choose my first snow holiday?

Start with the experience: compare Harbin and Changbai for cities and snow scenery, or ask about Hokkaido for onsen and city dining. Then compare transfers, outdoor time and optional costs.

Are winter attractions open every day?

Not necessarily. Snow, temperature, wind and operating notices affect attractions, roads and activities. Confirm operation on your travel dates as well as the advertised season.

Are Mohe auroras or Baikal ice conditions guaranteed?

No. Auroras and ice or snow scenery vary with natural conditions. Activities must follow local safety and operating arrangements.

Is the Russia twin-city tour a winter departure?

The newly listed 8D6N twin-city dates are in April–June 2027 and focus on culture and cities. For blue ice, see the separate February Baikal journey. They are different products.

Source check: the Hokkaido official tourism website lists Sapporo Snow Festival、Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival。Route, hotel and fare details appear on the linked Beyond Travel itineraries. Event arrangements can change; recheck before departure.
